Play Rehab for the Serious Professional

“The opposite of play isn’t work, it’s depression.”         – Brian Sutton-Smith

We’ve been raised to think of play as a frivolous pastime, something we do after the serious business is done. Meanwhile, we drive ourselves into the ground to achieve enough so that one day we can finally play. Hopefully before we die. Life has shifted from being a Playground to a Proving Ground.

Not only is this making us miserable, damaging our bodies, hurting our relationships, and crushing our souls, it’s also a serious obstacle to our success. We are at our best – our smartest, most creative, most collaborative, and most agile – when we’re playing. In short, it pays to play!

But even if we recognize the value of play, it’s not easy to leave the proving ground. Most of us are addicted to busyness. We’re afraid we’ll lose our competitive edge if we stop. In fact, we’re not even sure we remember how.

The Playful Path is play rehab for professionals who realize that play is vital to our success and want to unleash our playful spirit at work.

“I love working with Gwen. She’s compassionate, insightful, and she makes me laugh when I’m taking myself too seriously. She’s had a big impact by being gently persistent with me on the issues that I do/but I don’t really want to work on.”
