GIRAFFE SESSION #8 – for PDF Play with Da Mystery
NOTES – Jam #7 – Play with Disruption
EXERCISES & CHALLENGES (to do with buddies or alone)
Seeing with New Eyes: Choose an issue you’re dealing which feels stuck, confusing, difficult. Have your buddy help you come up with 3-5 different perspectives – make some serious and some silly (e.g. a guru, a clown, your children, Bart Simpson). Imagine what they would see, say and do.
The Gift of Disruption: Think of a disruption that was challenging at the time but actually revitalized your life and generated possibilities you couldn’t have imagined before. What are some disruptions you’re dealing with now? What are they revealing and what might they be making possible? What can you do to play with them?
Finding a balance of Chaos and Order Explore what parts of your life need more chaos and what parts need more order and what steps to take to bring that (see notes for ideas).
Challenge: In the next two weeks, surprise yourself at least once. Surprise your buddy at least once!

Giraffe Jam #5 notes – Play On Purpose
BUDDY EXERCISES – some suggestions based on exercises we did in the jam. You can do these with a buddy or on your own.
#1. THE IMPACT OF YOUR STATE – Think about a time when you tried to make something happen and you were miserable, scared, tense. How did it go? Think of a time when you were really successful? What was your state?
#2. CONNECTING TO POSSIBILITY – Think of something you’re dealing with that you judge as wrong, bad, or not enough? What does that feel like? What do you create around you when you feel that way?
Now think of the same situation. What does that situation make possible? What might be the gift in it? How does THAT attitude change your feeling/state? What is possible from that state?
#3. GETTING TO THE ESSENCE – Think of something you either really want or really don’t want in your life. Maybe it’s at work, in a relationship. Explore what you want underneath the want. One person can repeat question: If you get that, what will that give you? Until you have connected with an essential quality:
Essential Qualities include:
#4. TURNING WORK INTO PLAY. what tasks do you want to bring more play into. There are small tasks and large tasks. For small tasks, brainstorm what would make it fun for you. Some possibilities:
Try it and see what works for you!
BIG TASKS – Turn it into an epic challenge. Find allies (inner and outer), identify enemies (procrastination, catastrophizing, etc.), establish what gets you points. Include others. Celebrate every point you get.
